GENRE: Workplace Drama / Psychological Warfare

THE CONCEPT

A prestigious restaurant has just won its third Michelin star. The charismatic head chef takes all the glory but the true genius behind the menu is a deaf sous-chef who works brutally long hours in the shadow of his boss.

The story explores ambition, exploitation and the theft of creative genius. When a renowned food critic secretly discovers the truth the head chef begins a campaign of psychological warfare to force the sous-chef out of the industry entirely.

The sous-chef thought he was building a culinary legacy but he realises his talent has built a golden cage he cannot escape.

TONE & STYLE

Think Whiplash set in a high-end commercial kitchen.

Visceral, loud and suffocating. The tension is in the physical environment: the roar of the gas burners, the aggressive chopping of a knife and the terrifying silence of the sous-chef’s perspective.

The sous-chef must be shown as a brilliant but incredibly vulnerable artist fighting against a narcissistic manipulator.
